When you think of homelessness and poverty, we often have a preconceived notion of what that looks like.
The truth is, homelessness and poverty take on many forms, some of which we don't always notice. A family who is struggling to pay the bills and feed their family. A mother and her kids who are spending the night in an emergency shelter. A man applying for a job so that he can rebuild his life.
With over half a million people in the U.S. experiencing homelessness and 43 million people living in poverty, tackling these issues can seem daunting. However, you can be part of the solution--there are so many ways you can help make a positive impact for those facing homelessness and poverty through service!
One way you can start is by signing up for the Make Your Mark on Hunger campaign! Sponsored by C&S Wholesale Grocers, this campaign challenges kids and teens to take action to address the issue of hunger in the US through meaningful hands-on service in their communities.
You can also use our project of the month, Smart Breakfast, to help kids living in shelters or from low-income families start their day off right by collecting healthy breakfast foods! Not only are you helping address hunger, but you're also helping these kids and teens do better in school because they can concentrate on what they're doing because they're not focused on their hunger.
Whether you're helping families feel more welcome when they enter a shelter or collecting toys, books or other fun items for kids and teens without a permanent home, we've got lots of ways to help you fight homelessness and poverty!
